# Can I burn candles and incense around my air purifier?

We recommend that you don’t burn candles or incense around your [air purifier](https://www.intellipure.com/product-category/air-purification-units/?hsLang=en) to ensure that your air is kept clean and your health is not negatively impacted. Burning candles and incense has potential health effects due to exposure to contaminants and particulate matter. Exposure to incense smoke has been linked to several illnesses and certain brands of incense contain chemicals that can cause skin irritation.
