# How To: Compact routine care and maintenance

** ⚠️  Caution:** Always disconnect power to the unit before servicing

Maintaining your Intellipure Compact filter with proper care is crucial to ensuring your unit runs smoothly and effectively cleans your indoor air. Your filter maintenance schedule should be based on the pollution area in your level because filters in units that operate in heavily polluted areas need to be replaced and cleaned more often. 

 For most environments, you should replace your [pre-filter](https://www.intellipure.com/product/intellipure-compact-pre-filter-replacement/?hsLang=en) every 6 months and your [main filter](https://www.intellipure.com/product/intellipure-compact-main-filter-replacement/?hsLang=en) every 9 to 12 months. The unit’s high-energy grid should be cleaned with a lint-free cloth every 3 months.
